　この展覧会は２０世紀の最も著名なモダン・マスター　（近代の巨匠）　の多くの１００点以上の絵画（ボナール、ブラツク、シャガール、デユビツフェ、レジェ、マテイス、ミロ、モジリアニ、ピカソ等）　が展示される。フォーブ、キュービイスト、シュールリアリストを含むエコール・ド・パリを代表する３８人のアーティストを展示し、－全ての作品はメトロポリタンのコレクシヨンから選ばれ－　世紀の移り変わり目の印象派のルートから第２次世界大戦後の惨状までのフランス絵画の発展を追跡する。　「このエコール・ド・パリの巨匠による驚くべき絵画の列挙はメトロポリタン美術館の半世紀以上にのぼるコレクションを反映している」　と同美術館のディレクター、フィリップ・ド・モンテベロは語った。　又，　「同美術館のコレクションは、何人もの信じられないような寛大な寄贈、遺贈を受け取る喜ばしい幸運に恵まれて、過去２０年間に飛躍的に増大した」
　モダンアート部門の責任者であり、この展覧会のキューレターでもあるウイリアム・Ｓ・リバーマンは次のようにコメントした。　「これは私達のコレクションからこのような傑作の調査として初めてであり、それは観客にとっても意外な事実の発見になるであろう。　ただ単に大きなヴァイタリティの時期と場所を思い起こすだけでなく、アーティストが今世紀のアートを形作るのにこれほど深く関わっていたかの予期しない関係をも明らかになるであろう」

＊この展覧会とユダヤ美術館で同時期におこなわれる　"ニューヨークでのパリ展"　を観られると興味もまたより増すと考えます。
